Setting your plan up
The order to do things in, from an empty workspace to an employee who can see their units.
Five steps. Each one has its own page with the detail, but this is the sequence, and the sequence matters. Doing it in this order means you never have to go back and redo something.
The five steps#
- 1Add your employees. They cannot receive units until they exist. See Adding your team.
- 2Create your goals, if any part of your plan is goal based. See Creating goals.
- 3Build an earning schedule. The rulebook for how units are earned. Build it once and reuse it. See Earning schedules.
- 4Give out units. Attach a schedule to each award. See Giving out units.
- 5Tell your team. They are emailed automatically, but a conversation lands better than an email.
Tip. Set your goals up before your schedules. A schedule can then pick from the list rather than you retyping a goal every time.
What Longpass does, not you#
You do not set the unit value. The Longpass team records your financial results and publishes it, which is what makes the number credible to your employees. See How unit value is set.
Before you start#
Decide these with whoever owns the plan, because changing them later means changing awards that people have already been told about.
- How many units exist in total, and how many you are prepared to give out.
- How long units take to be fully earned, and how long the opening waiting period is.
- Whether earning is by time, by goal, or both.
- How often you will open a cash out window, and roughly what you can afford at each one.
