Publishing a unit value
Recording results and setting the number every employee sees.
This is the most consequential action on the platform. The moment it is published, every employee at that company sees a new value on their own units.
How it is calculated#
Profit, times the multiple, times the plan share, divided by total units. The full explanation with a worked example is on How unit value is set, which is the page to send to anybody who asks.
Publishing#
- 1Open the company and go to Plan and value.
- 2Enter the profit figure for the period, normally EBITDA, and the period it covers.
- 3Check the multiple and plan share against the agreement. They carry over, but check anyway.
- 4Review the calculated unit value, and what it does to a typical holding.
- 5Publish. It is live for every employee immediately, along with the date it was set.
When the value falls#
Publish it anyway. A plan that only ever goes up is not credible, and employees work out quickly when a number is being managed. Warn the company admin before publishing so they can talk to their team first.
How often#
Quarterly or annually, matching what the company agreed. Consistency matters more than frequency. Publishing on a predictable rhythm is what makes people trust the number.
